Belarusian Journalist Hanna Liubakova receives Media Freedom Award

The award cer­e­mo­ny took place at the annu­al Media Free­dom con­fer­ence orga­nized by the inter­na­tion­al cor­po­ra­tion Transat­lantic Lead­er­ship Net­work in Wash­ing­ton. The jour­nal­ist announced it on her Face­book page.

Transat­lantic Lead­er­ship Net­work pre­sent­ed the award to Han­na Liubako­va, as well as jour­nal­ists and activists Masih Aline­jad (Iran), Yann Philip­pin (France), Stephen Kalin (USA), entre­pre­neur and activist Jim­my Lai, who has been impris­oned in Hong Kong since Decem­ber 2021.

In her speech, Han­na Liubako­va spoke about Belaru­sian jour­nal­ists behind bars, includ­ing Ihar Losik, a jour­nal­ist with RFE/RL Belarus.

She empha­sized that Belaru­sian jour­nal­ists con­tin­ue to work despite repres­sion, exile, cen­sor­ship and pro­pa­gan­da.

Han­na Liubako­va also spoke at a con­fer­ence at the Nation­al Press Club in Wash­ing­ton, D.C., and shared her expe­ri­ence of inde­pen­dent media work in Belarus.
